talabat: Food, grocery & more

Editor Evaluation
Talabat started out in Kuwait back in 2004, and honestly, it has become my go-to app for pretty much everything I need delivered. You can get food, groceries, pharmacy items, and even flowers through it. I found it on the Google Play store, and it is also on the Apple App Store. The app itself is free to download and install, which is nice. You do have to create an account to place an order, but that process is really quick. From what I can see on Google Play, it has been installed over 50 million times, which shows how many people use it in the Middle East region.
Using the app is pretty straightforward. You just open it, allow it to detect your location, and you immediately see a list of nearby restaurants and stores. A good tip is to sort by rating or delivery time if you are in a hurry. One thing I always do is look at the "Deals" section before I pay full price for a meal. The app also lets you schedule orders for later, which is perfect if you know you will be busy in the evening.
I have tried a few other delivery apps like Careem Food and Deliveroo, but I keep coming back to this one. The main reason is just the sheer number of options available. In my city, Talabat has way more partners than the competition. Plus, their talabat mart feature for quick grocery delivery is much faster than what I have experienced with other apps. The whole experience from download to delivery just feels more polished.
Capabilities
- π The outstanding feature for me is the real-time order tracking. Unlike some apps where the map just shows a vague dot, this app shows you the exact driver location and their progress with amazing accuracy. It even vibrates when they are one minute away.
- π Their "Talabat Mart" concept is a lifesaver. While apps like Noon Grocery exist, this one is built right into the main app. You can get a pack of water, eggs, or snacks delivered within 30 minutes. It uses specific micro-fulfillment centers that stock crazy amounts of products.
- π The saved addresses and "Order Again" functionality saves me so much time. With a single tap, I can reorder my weekly groceries without retyping anything. The app also remembers my favorite items from specific restaurants, which is a feature I haven't seen work as well on other apps.
Highlights
- π Talabat has a massive restaurant selection compared to Yumly or Deliveroo. In my area, they cover almost every local joint, not just the big chains. You rarely get that "no results found" message here.
- π Their customer support is surprisingly responsive. If a driver cancels or an item is missing, you can start a complaint right in the order chat, and they usually resolve it with a refund or coupon within a few hours. Other apps often make you jump through hoops.
- π The "T" subscription service is a steal if you order frequently. For a monthly fee, you get free delivery on all orders over a small amount. It has saved me more money than the loyalty programs of similar apps.
Lowlights
- π The delivery fees can be very inconsistent. At certain times, the same order from the same restaurant can have a fee that is double or triple the normal rate. Apps like Careem Food seem to have a flatter price structure.
- π The user interface can feel a bit cluttered. There is a lot of information on the screen, and sometimes it is hard to find specific restaurants without using the search bar. Deliveroo has a cleaner, more minimal design that is easier to browse.
- π Not all restaurants are actually "open" when the app says they are. You can place an order, wait 20 minutes, and then get a notification that the restaurant rejected it because they are busy. This happens more frequently here than on competitor apps.
- π The rating system feels a bit rigged. A restaurant with a 4.8 rating might serve terrible food, but the high score comes from delivery speed or packaging. Other apps have a split rating for food and service, which is more helpful.
